Basketball, EuroLeague: Bayern Munich defeated Barcelona

What a respectable success and the final point at the end of a complicated sporting year: Bayern Munich’s basketball players have established themselves in the top group of the EuroLeague with their eleventh win in their 17th game.

Coach Andrea Trinchieri’s team defeated FC Barcelona’s star selection 90:77 (43:45) in the top game after a particularly strong second half and thus celebrated a successful conclusion for 2020.

Even more: For the first time, Munich has a good chance of reaching the knockout round.

The outstanding player was the former NBA professional Wade Baldwin, who not only scored 29 points for Bayern in just under 32 minutes, but also seven assists, three rebounds and two steals.

Paul Zipser (16) and Nick Weiler-Babb (14) also scored double digits. The key to victory was the strong third quarter, in which the Munich team scored a whopping 17 points more after the start was anything but promising.

In front of empty stands in the Audi Dome, the team was quickly behind at 16:26 (8th minute) before they fought their way back to within two points for the break – and the Baldwin show began.

Result: Bayern won the third quarter with 27:10 – 70:55 after 30 minutes. Even after that, the Munich team, who were clearly better in rebounding and finally also on the defensive, did not let up and defended their lead with confidence.

The Euroleague will not continue until January 8 at the top Greek club Olympiacos Piraeus – but there is hardly any time to relax in the coming days. Already on Sunday (6 p.m. /MagentaSport) Bayern appear in the Bundesliga in the top BBL game at Meister ALBA Berlin.
