He made a name for himself in 3rd place for Australia but Marnus Labuschagne says he’d love to open his eyelashes if the team needed him to.
Australia faces serious problems when it comes to the summer opening test. David Warner and his likely successor Will Pucovski were both ruled out due to injury and concussion, respectively.
Marcus Harris was named to the test squad because of these double blows and may find himself mixing up the warmth, opening up alongside Joe Burns or instead of the struggling incumbent in Adelaide.

Labuschagne played every position from 3rd to 7th place in the Australian Test XI but told reporters on Saturday that he would have no problem accepting the brand new ball if asked to.
“Whatever the team needs, that’s our job as cricketers,” he said. “It’s about making sure we’re doing the best for the team. If the team needs me to open, we will.
“We’ll just have to wait and see how a few other moving parts go right now.
“It’s a team sport and it’s about winning games. If this is our best way to win games, we will.”
Even before Pucovski was excluded, the idea of opening Labuschagne instead of Burns was raised to include Cameron Green in Test XI.

Green suffered a concussion playing for Australia A against India on Friday, which put him in doubt for a Test debut.
In positive news rare for Tim Paine’s team on Saturday, Cricket Australia doctor Pip Inge said Green “showed clinical improvement overnight and was symptomatically better than yesterday.”
The shape of Burns this summer has become a serious issue on the Border Gavaskar series. On Friday, a duck in the opening innings against the Indians raised his top-notch average since the start of the Sheffield Shield season to 7.63.

While Labuschagne has opened his hand to open his hand if necessary, he is confident his teammate at Adelaide Oval will be next to him in the XI, ideally with a big score next to his name in the second innings against the Indians in the Tour match.
“We’ve all been where you want it so bad, you want the runs. A couple of innings is not a judgment on a player’s abilities and how they are doing.
“I have full confidence in Joe that if he is selected, he will be a man for the big moments and compete. I really hope he gets a few runs in the Scond Innings and calms things down. He’s a very good player. “
