Andrew Bogut officially retires

Unsurprisingly, Andrew Bogut (9.6 points and 8.7 career average rebounds) will begin a new chapter in his life, at just 36 years old (he had them on November 28). In his podcast, the Australian hub has indeed announced that it is closing his adventure as a professional basketball player. Between 2005 and 2019, the Melbourne native successively wore the colors of the Bucks, Warriors, Mavericks, Cavaliers and Lakers, before returning to his home country, to the Sydney Kings, in 2018. Since then, he was briefly returned to Golden State to play at the end of the 2018-19 fiscal year.

Drafted in 2005, the Australian interior will remain as one of the 11 non-American players selected in first position during the Draft, with Mychal Thompson, (H) Akeem Olajuwon, Michael Olowokandi, Yao Ming, Andrea Bargnani, Anthony Bennett, Andrew Wiggins, Karl-Anthony Towns, Ben Simmons and Deandre Ayton. He will also remain as a major part of these Warriors of the 2010s.

Because his arrival at Golden State in March 2012, in exchange for Monta Ellis, is indeed considered as one of the starting points of the dynasty of the franchise of the Bay of Oakland, bringing to the latter the defensive base which to him. was missing. Proof of this is, with Andrew Bogut in control, the Warriors have never missed the playoffs and have continued to progress season after season, going from 23 to 73 wins between 2012 and 2016.

The trigger for the Warriors dynasty

Associated with Draymond Green at that time, the Australian was above all one of the most feared rackets in the country, in the defensive sector. Evidenced by his appearance in the “All-Defensive Second Team” in 2014-15. Perfect screen setter and solid blocker (1.5 against average in 706 games, including a title of Best Blocker in the League in 2010-11), the “Boomer” was also a skillful player with his hands, a good passer for his position. and able to score with ease when needed.

On a personal level, Andrew Bogut’s best campaign took place in 2009-10, ending this famous year with 15.9 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.5 blocks on average for the Bucks. That year, his performances had earned him a place in the “All-NBA Third Team”. Unfortunately, he never repeated this feat, injuries then slowing him down in his tracks.

As for the collective peak of the career of the former student of the University of Utah (his jersey is also removed there), he obviously intervened with the Warriors. In the shoes of a holder, under the orders of Steve Kerr, he actually won his only title, in 2015.
