That’s why the referee had to go out at the BVB game

The first substitution was made after just eleven minutes at the Champions League game in Bruges. But none of the players had to leave the field, but the referee.

At the Champions League game of Bundesliga soccer club Borussia Dortmund at Club Brugge (here in the live ticker) the referee Damir Skomina was replaced early. After just eleven minutes, the experienced referee from Slovenia had to leave the field on Wednesday, with the fourth official Dragoslav Peric taking over.

The reason for the substitution was an injury, which Skomina apparently sustained without any outside influence. Sky commentator Wolff Fuss said the referee injured his knee.

Skomina then continued the game as the fourth official.
