Terrible Kyle Allen injury from “strange” Giants games

A cruel leg injury brought quarterback Alex Smith off the field and a cruel leg injury brought him back.

Washington’s Kyle Allen sprained his ankle on Sunday when Giant’s safety Jabrill Peppers flashed, blocked as he sped backward with a bull, lost his balance and whipped his leg into a crawling Allen knee, causing himself to Leg and ankle of the quarterback in unnaturally twisted position.

“We all have a pact in this league,” said Peppers. “Guys came from different backgrounds, guys worked hard to get here, so you never want a guy to go down like this. I have prayed for him. I apologized to him. I definitely didn’t intend for this to happen. I try to play hard and make a game for my team. I wish him a speedy recovery. “

Peppers was fined for beating the passerby, but Washington coach Ron Rivera had no problem.

“I don’t think it’s a dirty game,” said Rivera after a 23-20 loss.

Smith replaced Allen late in the first quarter, completing 24 of 32 passes for 325 yards and his first touchdown pass in 721 days. It was Smith’s second game action since November 18, 2018, when he suffered a broken leg that ultimately required 17 surgeries and almost one amputation after the infection spread, as captured in ESPN’s documentary “Project 11”.

“A lot of emotion is going on for me in the sense that I knew Kyle was down and I knew it was pretty serious,” said Smith. “You grab your helmet and get ready to taxi and suddenly you see them pulling out the airprint and cart – and I know this routine well.”

Smith came off the bench earlier this season to test his leg against contact and will be Washington’s starter next week in Allen’s absence as Dwayne Haskins, the 2019 first round draft pick, remains a backup.

The 68-yard touchdown bond between Smith and Terry McLaurin, who was in the state of Ohio at the time of the injury, was one of the NFL’s feel-good moments. Smith also threw three interceptions, including two in the final three minutes when a field goal would have tied the game.

“It always feels good to make a touchdown,” said Smith with a smile. “It was really a long time ago.”

Smith may like the touchdown ball as a keepsake, but he “has no idea” where it landed.

“I enjoy so much every day,” said Smith. “I feel like I’ve developed and I’m very grateful for that. This is another step. I’m incredibly crazy about Kyle … but I’m going full steam ahead. I will take this opportunity and make the most of it. “

Allen is the second NFC East starting quarterback to take on the Giants. Dallas Cowboys star Dak Prescott suffered a compound ankle fracture at the end of the season when he was attacked by Logan Ryan on October 11th.

Everyone should undergo an MRI examination on Monday.

“Everything happened so quickly,” said Peppers. “It was a weird piece.”
