Rio Ferdinand broke the decision to void a penalty for West Bromwich Albion after the Baggies suffered a 1-0 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Slaven Bilic’s side got United to work for all three points. Bruno Fernandes punished the difference in a game in which former United player Sam Johnstone dazzled between the sticks for the visitors.
But the Baggies will leave Old Trafford feeling downcast after being denied a clear kick after Fernandes defeated Conor Gallagher shortly after half-time.

Referee David Coote was advised to contact the pitch side monitor and review the decision he made and determine that the call should be undone.
The incident was all the more damaging when United received their own free kick moments later, which turned out to be a difference on Saturday night.
And Ferdinand made the decision to override the penalty, insisting that the significant reversal had a huge impact on the outcome of the game.
“It’s a shameful decision.” The United legend said about BT Sport.

The Portuguese appeared to have fouled Conor Gallagher and David Coote handed out a sentence
But VAR advised a review of the decision, and Coote canceled the appeal for the Baggies
Former umpire Peter Walton couldn’t justify Coote’s decision to override his own call.
“I didn’t think there was a clear and obvious mistake,” he told BT Sport.
“I don’t think the VAR should have interfered. By asking the referee to go to the field monitor, they conclude that he has made a mistake. ‘
As in most games since joining Sporting Lisbon in January, Fernandes was right in the thick of the action as United picked up their first three league points at home this season.
