Renewed Annual Market Cross in Niel promises to be a mud spectacle | Superprestige 2020

After a series of victories by Toon Aerts, Eli has taken over Iserbyt. He won the Superprestigemanche in Ruddervoorde, the Koppenbergcross and was crowned European champion.

The Jaarmarktcross has a “new” look. As in the early years of the competition, the start and finish are in the Antwerpsestraat. The course shifts to the Niel clay pits, which are soggy due to the rainfall of the past few days.

“It will be slogging and walking,” says Golazo’s Erwin Vervecken. “This is what Niel used to be known for and how I remember the cross from my time as an active rider.”

The riders can then regain speed around the fishing pond. “The combination of fast passages and walking lanes makes Niel an unpredictable game. If it comes to a standstill here, it can become a tactical cross”, Vervecken concludes.
