The examinations revealed an inflammation of the heart muscle in the well-trained professional athlete. Doctors have long assumed that corona infection can lead to cardiovascular complications even in competitive athletes. A research project on this was started at the University Clinic in Tübingen in July. Health expert Karl Lauterbach (SPD) also said in a dpa interview: “A very important study in the Journal of American Cardiology at the University of Frankfurt has shown that there are still heart changes in younger corona patients months afterwards. The study found that heart changes were seen in 78 percent of those affected. “

“You don’t know whether this also applies to athletes. That worries me, “said Lauterbach and encouraged top-class sport to work with the University of Frankfurt. Football and sport could make an important contribution to research. “
