Jose Mourinho among his players: The Portuguese led Tottenham to win against Man City and thus to the top of the table

With Tottenham Hotspur, Jose Mourinho is where he likes to see himself best: at the top. The Manchester City win is a blueprint of his tactics. His counterpart Pep Guardiola must also see that.
AWhen the game was over, Jose Mourinho made his way to the round of congratulations. The Portuguese hugged his players on the pitch and then proudly led his team into the dressing room.
For Mourinho, the 2-0 (1-0) of his Tottenham Hotspur against Manchester City was a sweet success from two perspectives. On the one hand, the Londoners climbed at least temporarily to the top of the Premier League table. On the other hand, Mourinho decided the tactical duel with his intimate enemy Pep Guardiola for himself.
Accordingly, Guardiola also looked contrite after the game: “We had more chances to score and we missed them. Mourinho’s teams are like this: you make mistakes and they punish you with a counterattack. You scored two goals out of three shots. ”Indeed, an apt analysis.
Joker hits after 28 seconds
In the first game after his contract extension until 2023, Manchester’s coach was shown what is currently not working for the champions of 2018 and 2019: the defense. A lift from Tanguy Ndombelé took the central defense around Aymeric Laporte and Rúben completely by surprise. Heung-Min Son then tunnelled goalkeeper Ederson, 1-0 (5th).
The game could hardly have started better for Tottenham. The Mourinho team withdrew and lay in wait for the counterattack, while City had a lot of possession, but could hardly create compelling chances.
After the break, Mourinho also showed a lucky hand with his substitutions. Giovani Lo Celso scored exactly 28 seconds after being brought in to make it 2-0 (65th). Tottenham jumped to first place thanks to their success. Today, however, Leicester City can overtake them with a win against Liverpool FC.

“I’m just happy with the way the team has developed. People can’t expect us to come here and fight for the title after one season. We’re not fighting for the title, we’re just fighting to win every game, ”said Mourinho after the game.
