Paul Pogba admitted that this season was the toughest time of his career at Manchester United and described the international break as “a breath of fresh air”.

The French star came during this time with the national team when France was dropped by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford. Scott McTominay and Fred preferred the deeper options behind Bruno Fernandes in midfield.

The 27-year-old told RTL France: “I’ve never had such a difficult time in my career. The French team is a breath of fresh air, the group is extraordinary, it’s magical. ‘

Prior to the international break, the Frenchman was dropped by Solskjaer for United’s final two games when Istanbul’s Red Devils were beaten by Basaksehir and defeated Everton at Goodison Park.

However, Pogba started both Les Bleus games in November – a 2-0 home defeat to Finland and France’s great 1-0 win over reigning European and Nations League champions Portugal.

France boss Didier Deschamps, who gave Pogba an important role in his 2018 World Cup squad, has admitted that the 27-year-old is not at his best at Manchester United and is not fulfilling what he is doing.

The national team manager said on Thursday: “Of course he’s not in his best shape. It’s hard to remember to be positive. Obviously he’s not in one of his better times.

‘Like all players who do not have a positive club situation, they are also mentally affected. I know him well enough and it can happen in a few places.

“However, we cannot say that he is fulfilled in what he does for his club.”

Pogba’s departure from the Manchester Untied starting XI coincided with permanent ties with Real Madrid managed by French legend Zinedine Zidane.

During the last international break in October, Pogba announced that his dream would be to play for the Spanish club, which won the La Liga title last season.

Pogba told reporters last month: “Yes, all football players would love to play for Real Madrid. It’s a dream for me why not someday ‘

The midfielder hopes to be back for Les Bleus when the national team takes on Sweden in the Nations League on Tuesday night.
