United returned Paul Pogba after Arsenal mistake

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists that Paul Pogba has shown signs that he is nearing his optimum again despite cost Manchester United in the Arsenal loss.

Pogba clumsily conceded a second-half penalty against Hector Bellerin and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who moved to Arsenal’s first win at Old Trafford since 2006.

Solskjaer dropped Pogba in Newcastle last month after the Frenchman got off to a sluggish start to the season after testing positive for COVID-19 in August.

Pogba shone in the Champions League against RB Leipzig and Paris Saint-Germain and Solskjaer believes the World Cup winner’s form was compromised last year by injury and illness problems.

“Every player is frustrated and disappointed after a loss. We need the consistency of every single player,” said Solskjaer. “We want that.

“Paul went through a difficult period with an (ankle) injury last season and COVID is now working to full fitness, but we have seen a lot of positive results lately and we hope it will continue to do so.

“In every situation you are a fit boy and Paul knows exactly in this case that he could have dealt with it better and he held up his hand.

“But that’s the way it is in a football game, it’s a high tempo intensity and the fitter you are, the more you can do, and that goes for every footballer around the world.”
