Man Utd make a “formal offer” to Cristiano Ronaldo’s agents as transfer speculation mounts

According to reports from Portugal, Manchester United have made an official offer to Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendez.

It is claimed that the Red Devils are keeping an eye on the Juventus striker’s situation. The Serie A club are reportedly looking to cut their labor costs.

And United have reportedly thrown out the feelers with Portuguese publication Record over SportWitness, claiming Ronaldo is considering the offer but continues to focus on Juve.

Ronaldo is Juventus’ highest paid player who makes a staggering £ 28m per season.

It seems plausible that the Italian champions want the 35-year-old off their wages bill and that United are dying to bring him home, but the transfer seems unlikely.

The Red Devils, who have tightened their wallets on their own in recent months due to the coronavirus pandemic, need a new central defender.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is unlikely to inject the money in January but he will no doubt try to bring on a defender in the summer and rekindle United’s interest in Jadon Sancho.

Ronaldo will not be short of suitors, however, Paris Saint-Germain is also linked.

An obvious transfer would be a swap deal with Neymar for Turin, but the Brazilian is currently earning more than Ronaldo, which would be a stumbling block for Juve.

Troy Deeney has suggested that Ronaldo join Wolves, where his agent Mendez represents a number of Portuguese players.

Deeney told talkSPORT: “I would rather look at a club like Wolves with a Portugal connection – that would work. Whoever.” [Ronaldo] still gets an incredible talent. You won’t get the same Ronaldo that you had at Man United. That will always be the comparison. ”
