Man United News: Angel Gomes reveals Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was wrong to let him go

Angel Gomes had many admirers at Man United.

The London-born midfielder made his debut for the club in 2017 when he was just 16.

Just a few months later, he was England captain to win the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Despite promising results, Gomes found it difficult to find opportunities for the first team.

After making his debut, Gomes played only nine games for United over the next three seasons.

He was frustrated with his lack of first-team action and decided to leave the club this summer.

Gomes, now 20, signed a five-year deal in Lille before being loaned to Boavista.

And it shows that United made a mistake of letting him go with some stunning performances in Portugal’s top division.

Gomes was in action against Benfica on Monday evening.

And the youngster led his team to a 3-0 win over the Portuguese giants. Gomes kicked off his team after winning and then converting a penalty.

This was just the latest in a series of impressive displays for United.

He received three assists on his debut in a 3-3 draw with Nacional.

He also scored against Moreirense, which means he has four goals and two assists in his first four games for the club.

Gomes is well known in France. Lille football director Luis Campos claims he is “one of the best talents in Europe”.

“Angel has to play 30-40 games in a season and I think if all goes well he will show that he is one of the greatest talents in Europe,” he said pro goal.
