Lone fighter Levy sprints for EM gold at track cycling championships

Eindividual fighter Maximilian Levy sprints for gold at the European Track Cycling Championships in Plovdiv / Bulgaria. The only German EM starter knocked out the Lithuanian national champion Vasilijus Lendel in the semi-finals on Friday with 2-0 wins. In the evening he challenges the former Russian world champion and Olympic third party Denis Dmitrijew (Russia).

The Association of German Cyclists (BDR) had withdrawn its team due to corona concerns. Levy (33), three-time Olympic medalist, did not see this and, in consultation with the association, drives in the risk area on his own account.

In the second round he defeated the Ukrainian Dmytro Stowbezkij, in the quarter-finals he was too fast for the young Czech Jakub Stastny. The women’s final is contested by two-time 500 m world champion Daria Schmelewa and defending champion Anastassija Woinowa (both from Russia).
