Live news from Coronavirus Australia: Border checkpoints between Queensland and NSW to be dismantled

Last day of checkpoints on the Queensland / NSW border

After more than eight months, today is the last day of police checkpoints along the Queensland-NSW border.

The checkpoints were set up on March 26, when the coronavirus outbreak began to pick up steam.

However, from tomorrow the checkpoints and roadblocks will be dismantled.

For the first time in more than eight months, drivers no longer need to show a border pass when traveling between NSW and Queensland.

However, police say the checkpoints can be re-implemented within 24 hours if needed in the future.

Adelaide residents are still facing travel restrictions to the state – they are only allowed to fly to Queensland and must be quarantined for 14 days.
