Ligue 1: Saint-Etienne dark in Brest

The days follow one another and the defeats accumulate for Saint-Etienne. Crushed in Brest (4-1), this Saturday during the 11th day of Ligue 1, the Stéphanois bowed for the 7th time in a row in the league.

What you must remember

The Greens went to Brittany to stop a black series. They left even more weakened. Beaten in Lyon in the derby (2-1) on the last day, Claude Puel’s men failed to bounce back in Brest, where they went on to lose a 7th row in L1. This is the worst series in their history, tied with that of October – November 2018.

In a first period when the locals made their realism speak, Saint-Etienne sank. Four goals conceded, signed Honorat (7th), Duverne (23rd), Cardona (33rd) and Mounié (38th), despite 59% possession of the ball. Camara’s second goal this season (30th) will not have weighed heavily and Puel’s men have never really had time to believe it.

After an unbridled first period, the second was much more closed. Saint-Etienne stumbled against Brestois in management, who offered themselves valuable points. Building on their resounding success against Lille (3-2), the Bretons won a 4th victory in their last 5 receptions in L1.

Conversely, in Forez, the crisis is getting deeper and deeper. After a great start and three successes to start the season, the Greens have since accumulated poor performance. The defeat against Rennes (3-0) at the end of September launched the tumble of the Stéphanois, passed from the place of leader to 15th row, this Saturday evening. The Greens can even lose two more places in the standings if Reims, Nîmes or Lorient come to win this Sunday.

The fact of the match: hope and then relapse

Led 2-0, ASSE reduced the gap to half an hour of play, by Mahdi Camara. But hardly had the Greens had time to believe in a comeback that they sank again. Less than a minute after the engagement, SB29 recovered two goals ahead, thanks to Irvin Cardona. Enough to shower the opposing hopes and definitely take the lead.

The number: 4

Brest had never scored 4 goals in the first period, in Ligue 1. It is now done, in only 4 shots on target before the break. Effective.
