Professional competitions in volleyball and basketball will start after more than a month, the government’s measures against coronavirus stopped them on October 12.

“After several long days of waiting, the Czech Volleyball Association received an exemption from the Ministry of Health for organizing professional competitions,” the report said on the association’s website.

In an afternoon videoconference, the Association of Men’s Volleyball Teams and Clubs confirmed that the volleyball players would begin on Saturday, November 14. The complete tenth round will be played, in which, among other things, the leaders of České Budějovice will go to Ostrava and the undefeated Karlovy Vary region will also welcome the Beskydy Mountains at home. The women return to the board to match the 13th round a week later. It was last played on October 10.

The condition for the return of professional competitions is tests on covid-19, which teams must take twice a week. It will be played everywhere without the presence of spectators. Karlovy Vary, for example, is preparing paper fans for the stands.

Basketball players also take part in the event

The basketball players will restart NBL on Friday, when there are two overtime stops of the second round and an overtime of the 6th round. The leaders Nymburk will compete with Kolín, Brno with Olomouc and Pardubice with Děčín. These will be the first matches since October 11, when Opava won 101: 69 in Hradec Králové.

The highest basketball competition will start on November 17 with the completion of the 4th round between KP Brno and Slovanka. The sixth round will then get into a regular rhythm from November 20 after the national team break.

Hnilička: Athletes in competitions will only need two tests a week

The NBL league club association has agreed on a frequency of two matches per week, so that the third term of each week is left to complete a total of 66 matches, which now remain to be played from the previous program. During the matches, a maximum of 100 people can be in the halls; in addition to the players, coaches do not have to wear veils. Players who have already undergone covid will not need to be tested within 90 days of their first infection. Currently, all 12 NBL teams are ready for matches.

“In the vast majority of things we asked for, we were satisfied. The validity of PCR tests on covid will not be 72 hours, but we understand that it will be 48 hours, as in other sports,” said ALK chairman Tomáš Kotrč. “Unlike footballers and hockey players, in 48 hours we could catch two matches instead of one within the validity of one test. And we also deal with a situation where if someone on the team is positive so that other players can continue to play,” said Daniel Kuruz, league clubs ŽBL.

The highest basketball competition will start on Saturday. “I’m glad that logic and pragmatism have won, and those who make a living from sports can continue to do their job. And even if it’s not attractive to spectators in the halls, it will be attractive when broadcasting, because fans are now hungry for Czech sports. And I’m glad we can add women’s basketball to a group of professional leagues that can be played again, “said Kurucz.

Handball players, handball players and floorball players can also prepare to resume their top competitions this weekend. “We are just waiting for us to receive the official confirmation in the data box. That should be during today,” NSA spokesman Jakub Večerka told ČTK.
