Huge alligator wanders through South Florida golf course after Eta rains

A huge alligator was captured leisurely strolling through a golf course in Naples, South Florida, following flooding caused by heavy rains from storm Eta.

A video circulating on social media shows the alligator enjoying the tropical conditions at the Valencia Golf & Country Club, a golf club located on Double Eagle Trail on Randall Boulevard.

“HUGE FLORIDA CAYMAN! Yes, this monster is real. Caught on camera during Hurricane #Eta in Naples, “WINK News reporter Matt Devitt wrote in awe.

Although it is not unusual to see alligators in South Florida, whether on golf courses, in the streets or even in the courtyards and portals of the houses, this has surprised by its enormous size.

Since the late 80s, when it was included in the list of endangered species due to the indiscriminate hunting of which it was a victim, the South Florida American alligator has been gaining more and more ground.

A 2018 study recorded an “alarming trend” in alligator attacks in the state and forced local authorities to reinforce public safety in spaces such as lakes and canals.

The bites, according to the study published in the Tampa Bay Times, have increased to 10 per year from 1987 to 2017, compared to the roughly 6 that were recorded on average between 1971 and 1986.

Heavy rains from Tropical Storm Eta caused unprecedented flooding in parts of South Florida. In addition to the fact that animals have been seen in the rivers that have been created on the streets of Miami-Dade or Broward, the residents of these counties also let their imagination run wild and they took out rafts and jet skis to make the most of the tragedy.
