Germain Gigounon is David Goffin’s new coach

Germain Gigounon is the new coach of David Goffin. The Belgian number one announced it on Wednesday evening via his Instagram account.

“I am very happy to announce that Germain Gigounon is joining my team as a new coach,” said David Goffin. “We have known each other for many years and have always shared the same passion for tennis. I am very excited to start the new season with him ”.

Germain Gigounon, 31, replaces Thomas Johansson, who coached David Goffin for two years. The Liege had announced on November 5 the end of his collaboration with the Swede.

Thomas Johansson had become Goffin’s coach in February 2018. Johansson, winner of the Australian Open in 2002, and Goffin, had already worked together for a year, in 2016. Johansson was then part of the Liégeois coaching staff , who was trained by Thierry Van Cleemput. The latter remained the coach of Goffin until January 2019 and an elimination in the third round of the Australian Open.

After the suspension of the ATP circuit due to the coronavirus pandemic, David Goffin has had a complicated end to the season, he who has not won a single match since his round of 16 lost to Denis Shapovalov at the US Open in early September .

Germain Gigounon was the coach of Ysaline Bonaventure until the beginning of November. La Stavelotaine had indicated that she had not wished the end of her collaboration with the Binchois.
