Else Schirra is Saarland’s oldest tennis player: serve with 99 | Regional

St. Wendel – Professional athletes can really learn a slice from so much endurance: Every Wednesday Else Schirra is on the tennis court – at the proud 99 years!

“I don’t know exactly when I started doing it,” admits the grandmother. “But I was still relatively young.”

Since then, the ball and bat have been an integral part of Else’s life. “Very few younger people work that hard,” enthuses her tennis partner, who has been on the court with her for more than 32 years. “Your strength and your ability to react are simply sensational.”

Else used to play a team with 15 other women. Now only she is left. “Sports keep you mobile. In the body and in the mind, ”she reveals.

The 99-year-old also drives a car herself and takes care of a three-family house. She also does the household, bookkeeping and tax returns on her own.

Else’s birthday is on January 11th. Then tennis should be over. Perhaps!

“I want to stop when I turn 100. But I don’t know yet whether I’ll really do that … “
