With only 17 players and the third goalkeeper: Ajax Amsterdam travels to Denmark with a heavily thinned squad and has to do without eleven professionals in the Champions League. The media suspect they all tested positive for the corona virus.

Ajax Amsterdam traveled to Denmark with a short team to the Champions League duel against FC Midtjylland on Tuesday (9 p.m. in the FAZ live ticker for the Champions League). Coach Erik ten Hag are only 17 players available, as the Dutch football club announced on Monday. Among others, striker and team captain Dusan Tadic, goalkeeper Andre Onana and midfielders Ryan Gravenberch and Davy Klaassen, who recently moved back to the Netherlands from SV Werder, are missing.

The situation with the Amsterdam goalkeepers is particularly precarious. Only the second reserve keeper, Kjell Scherpen, traveled with them. The 20-year-old has not yet stood in goal for the first team for a minute. According to a report in the daily De Telegraaf, eleven players tested positive for the corona virus. The club has not yet confirmed this.

Ajax lost their first game against Liverpool 0-1 in the Champions League. The second group match ended 2-2 against Atalanta Bergamo.
