Boston Celtics and NBA legend Tommy Heinsohn is dead

Former basketball player Tommy Heinsohn, ten-time NBA champion with the Boston Celtics, as a player and then coach, died Tuesday at the age of 86, his former franchise announced. Member of the legendary Celtics dynasty (alongside Bill Russell and Bob Cousy in particular) who dominated American basketball from the late 1950s to the late 1960s, Heinsohn notably won 7 consecutive titles, from 1959 to 1965, after a first coronation in 1957.

The 2.01m interior ended his career in 1965 with career averages of 12.2 points and 5.7 rebounds. Coach of the Celtics from 1969 to 1978, he then led his franchise to two new NBA titles, in 1974 and 1976, before becoming a successful sports commentator for television and radio.
