Bobby Portis and DJ Augustin, new Bucks hires

It is doubtful whether it is two players who will weigh in the choice of Giannis Antetokounmpo to extend or not to the Bucks this fall, but his leaders have decided to bet on Bobby Portis, whom the Knicks had just released from his second year of contract at 15.5 million dollars, and on DJ Augustin, who comes from Orlando.

The former Bull is committed to a contract of eight million over two years (the “bi-annual exception”), with a type 1 + 1 contract, and should be the first domestic rotation behind Giannis Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez.

Strong attacker, he will bring hardness, rebounds, but also external points since he can move aside and shoot from afar. He will therefore resume the role of Ersan Ilyasova.

Another arrival, that of DJ Augustin on whom Milwaukee relies a large part of its “mid-level exception”. On the shelves of the Suns and the Knicks, the leader of the Magic joins the Bucks for a contract worth 21 million over three years. This is the first time in his career that he will play for a title contender, and he should be the understudy of Jrue Holiday, and also allow the latter to shift to the back.

These two arrivals seem to spell the end of the “sign-and-trade” with Bogdan Bogdanovic, even if the Bucks have some currencies to possibly satisfy the Kings. But it seems very badly started.

It should also be noted that the Bucks have only 11 players under contract, and they still have the possibility of signing at least four more players.
