In the individual competition in the group “Tokyo 1970” there is a blast between Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem. The winner of the match can take a giant step towards the semi-finals. In the evening, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev fight for their first success in London.

Here we report in the live ticker from what is happening in London.

All games and results:

  • Krawietz (GER) / Mies (GER) – Kubot (POL) / Melo (BRA) 6: 2, 7: 6 (7: 5)
  • Nadal (ESP) – Thiem (AUT)
  • 7:00 pm: Ram (USA)/Salisbury (GBR) – Koolhof (NED)/Mektic (CRO)
  • ca. 21:00: Tsitsipas (GRE) – Rublev (RUS)

4:03 p.m.: Nadal – Thiem 5: 5

Thiem does that well, but also takes a high risk in the rallies. So far, this has been rewarded, the 27-year-old equalized with a forehand winner. And: We are still waiting for the first break chance of the game.

3:58 p.m.: Nadal – Thiem 5: 4

Take a deep breath at Nadal, the Spaniard is 0:30 behind on his own serve – and counters with four points in a row. The 34-year-old is particularly successful on the forehand.

3:55 pm: Nadal – Thiem 4: 4

It goes on in lockstep, Thiem can also force Nadal to play on his own serve. The Austrian plays nice angles, brings the game through to 4: 4. We are slowly getting into the crucial phase of the first movement.

3:44 p.m.: Nadal – Thiem 3: 3

Nadal sniffs breakball for the first time, but Thiem responds at the debut with a cool backhand winner and ultimately takes this hard-fought game. A good match, albeit not a high-class one.

3:33 p.m.: Nadal – Thiem 2: 2

Still no advantages for one of the two players can be seen, although Nadal seems a tad safer when it comes to service. However, there were no break chances in this game.

3:27 p.m.: Nadal – Thiem 2: 1

Nadal plays serve at volley – with success. The Spaniard looks absolutely focused, cleverly builds up his points and hardly lets Thiem into the rallies on the return. 2: 1 for the record Grand Slam champion.

3:24 p.m .: Nadal – Thiem 1: 1

And Thiem also comes into the game well and makes his service game against the number two in the world. Open and balanced start to the match, which was to be expected.

3:20 p.m .: Nadal – Thiem 1-0

Nadal opens the game with his own serve – and brings the game through with a fine volley on the net without any problems. Good start for the man who is determined to win his first title here in London at the ATP Finals.

3:15 p.m.: Advantage Nadal?

A little bit of statistics before we start. It is the 15th duel, in a direct comparison Nadal leads 9: 5. However, the last match to date in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open at the beginning of the year went to the Austrian.

3:10 p.m .: Players warm up

The duel of the winners is on, both Thiem and Nadal have won their opening matches and can take a giant step towards the semi-finals today.

3 p.m.: Thiem calls for Nadal

Tobias Laure accompanies the match between Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem on the 3rd matchday from 3:00 p.m.

14:45 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 6: 2, 7: 6 (7: 5)

Robert Bauer is saying goodbye for the moment. Shortly it will continue here with the hit between Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem in the group “Tokyo 1970”.

14:32 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 6: 2, 7: 6 (7: 5)

That’s it! Although Kubot / Melo shorten it again to 5: 6 in the tie-break, the German duo remains strong-nerved. A strong forehand volley by Krawietz seals the success for the French Open champions.

14:30 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 6: 2, 6: 6, 3: 2

The Polish-Brazilian duo strikes back: Melo executes twice on the net and thus shortened to 2: 3.

14:28 Uhr. Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 6: 2, 6: 6, 3: 0

Great volley by Krawietz on the net for an early mini-break. The Coburg player then made the first serve twice and made it 3-0 in the tiebreak.

14:27 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 6: 2, 6: 6

We’re going to the tiebreaker! After only Kubot managed his service game smoothly, Mies followed unimpressed. The German duo equalized to 6: 6 after a cracking smash from Krawietz.

14:21 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 6: 2, 5: 5

Same game on the other side: Krawietz doesn’t show any nakedness when serving and quickly makes it 30: 0. Mies closes the net twice and balances out at 5: 5.

14:17 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 6: 2, 4: 5

Again to zero! Melo also serves as strong as a bear in this phase of the game and does not give the German duo the slightest chance.

14:13 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 6: 2, 4: 4

A tricky situation for Krawietz / Mies! After a powerful smash from Kubot, it is quickly 0:30 from a German point of view. The three seeded duo fought their way back again impressively. An equally huge smash from Mies and a powerful forehand from Krawietz ensure that the French Open champions win the game.

14:09 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 6: 2, 3: 4

The quota for the first serve goes up to 75 percent in the second sentence with Kubot / Melo. Kubot served highly concentrated and shortly afterwards added a forehand winner to win the game.

14:05 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 6: 2, 3: 3

Nu zero! Krawietz is still very stable with his own serve and thus repeatedly gives the German doubles free points. Mies honors his partner’s performance with a short “well played”. Everything in sequence in sentence two.

14:01 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 6: 2, 2: 3

It hurts just watching! Mies hits Melo in the abdomen with a volley on the net. The Cologne native apologizes promptly. Apart from that incident, Kubot / Melo remain stable on their own serve and thus submit again.

13:55 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 6: 2, 2: 2

The French Open winners pull their heads out of the noose again. Two double mistakes by Mies give the Polish-Brazilian duo a quick 30:15 lead. However, Krawietz is still wide awake on the net, so that only a few moments later it is the game ball for the Germans. Another forehand error by Kubot secures Krawietz / Mies the 2-2 equalizer.

13:52 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 6: 2, 1: 2

Once again, Krawietz / Mies sniffed the break. First, however, a forehand volley by Krawietz sails out and only a little later Melo hits the Coburger’s body with his volley. The Wimbledon winners of 2017 put it 2-1 in the second set.

13:48 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 6: 2, 1: 1

Spectacular point win by Mies: The Cologne player closes the net again and brings the eight placed Kubot / Melo almost to despair. The German duo also starts extremely concentrated and so early in set two.

13:45 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 6: 2, 0: 1

Kubot / Melo seem to have caught up again. The Brazilian gets through his service game with a little effort.

13:39 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 6: 2

After less than half an hour, when the score was 40:30, Mies set ball for the double seeded on the three was given. The 30-year-old then served well to the outside world, forcing Kubot to make another return error. A very strong performance by Krawietz / Mies to date, which is rewarded with winning the first set.

13:34 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 5: 2

The break festival continues – and how! After numerous, sometimes spectacular, rallies, it is suddenly 40:30 from the point of view of Krawietz / Mies and thus breakball again. Krawietz goes full on the return and secures the German double with a forehand winner the line along the third break of the game.

13:31 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 4: 2

Rebreak! From a German point of view, that happened too quickly. Kubot / Melo show themselves clearly improved on the return and thus come to simple points. Melo can finally use the second breakball with a volley on the net – only 4: 2.

13:27 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 4: 1

Dream start for the French Open winners! Again it is quickly 0:40 when Melo serves. Another great return winner from Krawietz brings the Germans the next break.

13:24 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 3: 1

Ultra-clean service game! Mies does not show any nakedness when it comes to his own service either and confirms the early break.

13:21 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 2: 1

Kubot wobbles seriously when it comes to its own service! A double mistake by Poland and a cracking backhand winner by Krawietz give the Germans their first break chances. Another double fault from Kubot does the rest. At zero, Krawietz / Mies secure the first break of the game for a 2-1 lead.

13:17 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 1: 1

Strong answer! Two aces from Krawietz and a great volley from Mies on the net bring the German double the quick equalizer.

13:15 Uhr: Krawietz / Mies – Kubot / Melo – 0: 1

Melo still has no rhythm for his serves – it quickly stands at 30: 0 for Krawietz / Mies. Afterwards, the Wimbledon winners from 2017 presented themselves highly concentrated and took the early lead after two forehand errors from Krawietz and a remarkable volley from Kubot.
