Virgil van Dijk breaks the silence after Jordan Pickford’s horror tackle because of an injury

Virgil van Dijk broke his silence after Jordan Pickford’s horror tackle, who operated on him.

The Liverpool defender faces another battle this season as he prepares to go under the knife to suffer a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Van Dijk lasted just 11 minutes of Saturday’s Merseyside derby after Pickford’s wild lunge led him into the box and incapacitated him.

He’s now facing a long hiatus but headed to Twitter to provide an update to his fans.

“I met with a senior consultant this afternoon to begin planning the intricacies of my rehabilitation after yesterday’s incident,” wrote van Dijk.

“I’m fully focused on my recovery now and will do everything I can to be back as soon as possible.

“Despite the apparent disappointment, I firmly believe that trouble lies in trouble, and with God’s help, I will make sure I come back better, fitter, and stronger than ever.

“In football, as in life, I believe that everything happens for a reason and it’s important to stay tuned whether you’re going through the ups or downs.

“With the support of my wife, children, family and everyone in Liverpool, I am ready for the challenge ahead.

“I want to thank everyone for the messages of support, it means a lot to me and my family and I will now do everything I can to support my teammates in a way that I can a few great weeks ago. I am taking my recovery day in and day out. I’ll be back. “

Liverpool have yet to release more details on the extent of the injury van Dijk has suffered or the expected time frame for which he will be out of action.

Several of his Liverpool team-mates have sent messages of support to the center-back on social media.

Red captain Jordan Henderson was among them, writing: “Comeback is always stronger than setback … Have a good rest my brother, we will wait for you.”
