Timothy Weah (Lille): “It was a bit of a shock” to be led by Celtic

“This draw against Celtic Glasgow (2-2), in the Europa League, is it two points lost or one point won?
For me, this is a won point. Because it was a tough game against a great team. In the first half, we weren’t as strong as usual. But after the break, we gave everything, we scored twice. We were not just looking for a draw but for victory. But we take a good point that leaves us in second place. So I think it’s positive. We have to learn from our mistakes and bounce back.

We felt your team lost after the first goal conceded …
It was a bit strange for us because we are not used to starting matches being led. It was a bit of a shock for us. At half-time, in the locker room, the coach told us to stay calm, to play our game. We had to go back and fight. I’m proud of what we do and proud of the boys.

“I fight, I train, I give everything”

What happened in the locker room at half-time?
We have a group of fighters. A great group led by José (Source). Even when he’s not on the pitch, he’s very important to us in the dressing room. He wasn’t playing today but … On and off the pitch, he’s a bit like a father figure to me. He’s one of the oldest on the team, he’s our captain and our leader. His voice in the locker room is super important. He was there at halftime to tell us that we needed to refocus, to keep our heads up and that’s what the boys did.

How do you feel, despite your reduced playing time?
I feel good. Last year was difficult for me. One year of injury is about the worst thing that can happen to a footballer. I’m happy with how it’s going, I know I’m not going to play every game. I fight, I train, I give everything. I’m just waiting for the opportunities. I work, I work, I try not to think about the injury I suffered and I try to bounce back. I continue to pray and hope to get better and better. “
