Top seed and 2018 champion Simona Halep was overthrown by Roland Garros on Sunday as Polish teen Iga Swiatek stormed to a 6-1, 6-2 win to advance to the quarter-finals.
Swiatek, only 19 years old and 54th in the world, will fight for a place in the semi-finals against the Italian qualifier Martina Trevisan after she was also massively upset against the Dutch fifth Kiki Bertens.
With two games in the fourth round, there are only four seeds left in the women’s draw – No. 3 Elina Svitolina, No. 4 Sofia Kenin, No. 7 Petra Kvitova and No. 30 Ons Jabeur.

Halep was a heartfelt favorite for the French Open after winning two clay titles before the event and having been unbeaten since January.
However, she was not up to the Swiatek, who scored four straight wins.
The Pole lost more than three games in one set only once per tournament (second set against Su-Wei Hsieh, 6-4).
BOOM:
Iga Swiatek suggests # 1 seed and prohibitive # RG20 Favorite Simona Halep in an absolutely resounding way, 6-1, 6-2.
What a great announcement for the 19 year old from Warsaw.
30 winners for Swiatek in this short match. Stopped Halep at just 12.

Halep’s elimination from the tournament means Ash Barty is unbeatable for number one in the world this year.
The Aussie will end the year at the top of the world rankings despite not playing since February.
Barty has been number 1 in the world since September 9, 2019. She will be the 11th woman in tennis history to be number 1 in the world more than 50 weeks later this year.
The record for an active player is Serena Williams (319 weeks), followed by Simona Halep (64 weeks).
The leaderboard was frozen between March 23rd and August 9th this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, while players are currently able to transfer their tournament points for longer than 12 months ago.
