Tennis Grand Slam tournament: Rittner: Australian Open with quarantine beforehand feasible

The German women’s tennis boss Barbara Rittner considers the Australian Open to be held at the beginning of 2021 as feasible despite the tense corona situation.

“Everything” revolves around the first Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne in the planning for the new season, Rittner said in an interview with the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. There should be “this super bubble: All athletes and their teams have to be there two weeks in advance, then they are divided into three different resorts, practically do training in quarantine, everyone is tested on arrival and then every three days,” explained the Head of the ladies in the German Tennis Association and emphasized: “I can imagine that it will work well.”

The
Australian Open
are planned from January 18 to 31, 2021. The two-time French Open double winners Andreas Mies and Kevin Krawietz had recently indicated that they would accept the two-week quarantine. “If that’s the only way to play there, we have to do it that way,” Mies told “Bild”.
