Ryan Giggs reviews three summer transfers from Manchester United

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs believes Edinson Cavani is the kind of signature the club’s fans have “screamed” for.

Cavani made a free transfer on the cut-off date after his Paris Saint-Germain release but has yet to make his debut for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

The Uruguayan striker may now be 33 years old but has extensive experience in national and European football.

Some have compared his signing to that of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who joined United in 2016. The Swedish striker scored 28 goals for the Reds in his first season at Old Trafford.

Before Cavani’s arrival, Solskjaer had Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Odion Ighalo to choose from. But Giggs believes United fans have wanted a top-notch center-forward all along.

“I played Cavani in my second game for Wales and he was actually better than Suarez in that game. I didn’t think he was that good, he was a real handful, ”Giggs said on the Webby & O’Neill YouTube channel .

“He hasn’t played in a long time so maybe he rusted a bit, but what you get – you get a center forward that a lot of fans have been screaming for.

“A real center forward who can lead the line. We have Marcus, we have Martial who is half a winger, half a center forward, but Cavani is a center forward, a target man. He has the experience. I hope that, like Bruno, he will make the players around him even better. “

United also brought on Donny van de Beek and Alex Telles, with the latter joining Cavani on the cut-off date.

Giggs believes Telles can give United something they haven’t had and that last season’s champions Liverpool are in abundance.

The Wales manager continued: “I think this is how he comes on for van de Beek but when he comes on he is impressed. He looks like he always has a goal in himself.

“Telles, I think we missed that. You look at Liverpool, Trent and Robertson – the destinations they offer. Now full-backs have to have that in their armor. When the wingers come in, the full-backs have to go wide and score goals. “
