Romelu Lukaku named Player of the Year in Europa League | Europa League

Romelu Lukaku (27) lost the Europa League final against Sevilla, but will still have a personal prize. The attacker, who scored 7 European goals, is the Player of the Year.

Lukaku opened the score in the final, but was also involved in the owngoal that killed Inter. Still, the Red Devil’s stats are impressive: 23 goals on his Serie A debut and 34 goals in total for Inter, tying Ronaldo’s record.

Ever Banega, who won the Europa League with Sevilla, and Bruno Fernandes (Lisbon and Manchester United) have to make peace with the places of honor.

Lukaku succeeds Eden Hazard on the Player of the Year honors list in the Europa League. The captain of the Red Devils received the award last season after his overall victory with Chelsea.

“I want to thank God for being here and playing for the club I’ve always dreamed of,” said Lukaku in an initial reaction to the trophy he received in the draw for the new Europa League season.

“I also want to congratulate Sevilla on winning the trophy.” Lukaku then also thanked his teammates, technical staff, friends and family. “I want to do even better with Inter next season.”
