Raymond Felton’s advice to Frank Ntilikina and Dennis Smith Jr.

If he did not necessarily leave an unforgettable memory in New York, the playmaker Raymond Felton spent two seasons there, a pretty good one with Amar’e Stoudemire in 2012-13 (13.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 5.5 assists). He knows what the pressure of playing Big Apple is like and during his time on The Putback he was asked what advice he would give the young leaders of the Knicks. Frank Ntilikina and Dennis Smith Jr. :

“Just have confidence. To trust you. We must not get caught up in all this pressure. There is a lot of pressure when you play in New York. A very big pressure. The fans in New York really love basketball, they really love their Knicks and if you’re not up to it they’ll let you know. It’s a lot of pressure. If you can’t take it .. I saw that it ruined the careers of a lot of players. ” Raymond Felton

Since their arrival at the Knicks, the two young playmakers have not really lived up to expectations and many are starting to despair on the New York side. It is quite possible that this season the New York leaders will give them one last chance, up to them to seize it under the leadership of Tom Thibodeau while they will be in the last year of their contract. They have particular concerns with their shoot, but for Felton the important thing is elsewhere.

“There is one thing that I felt in this room, from the fans. The most important thing and one that would help them with these fans is to just try to be the most complete players possible. Everyone thinks that scoring is important: ‘I have to score so many points to make money and get this contract.’ Yes of course you have to be able to put the ball in the basket, you have to score, but there are a lot of other things that you can do too that will allow you to get paid in this league. ” Raymond Felton
