Rapid Wien vs Arsenal: Thomas Partey is so good!

Fault

Thomas Partey appeared charming in his debut match as starter at Arsenal when he beat Rapid Wien. Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, did not hesitate to praise him.

Arsenal managed to beat Rapid Wien 2-1 at Allianz Stadion in the match matchday first Group B of the Europa League, Friday (23/10/2020) early morning WIB. Rapid took the lead through Taxiarchis Fontas’ goal in the 51st minute.

The Gunners then turned things around after scoring two goals in just four intervals. The two goals were made by David Luiz (70th minute), and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (74 ‘).

Arteta played their new signing, Thomas Partey, from the first minute of this match. The player from Ghana made his debut as starter at Arsenal since joining from Atletico Madrid this summer.

Previously, Partey had already appeared with Arsenal against Manchester City. But in that match, he only played for seven minutes.

This opportunity from Arteta to appear as starter Partey did not waste to immediately steal the attention. Played as a central midfielder alongside Bukayo Saka and Mohamed Elneny, Partey performed well in both defense and attack.

Quoted from WhoScored, Partey recorded a successful pass accuracy of 90 percent, once opened a shot and once made a successful dribble. While defending, he won four aerial duels and five tackles, one intercept and one sweep.

Partey’s appearance in this match clearly made Arteta happy. He’s the midfielder the Spanish manager really craves for.

“He looks very strong and very comfortable. I think he controlled the midfield alone in the second half when we played a little open and provided a lot of space to attack with several players,” said Arteta quoted from Arsenal’s official website.

“However, I think he was fantastic tonight. He could have done better than this.”

“Even so, he still needs his teammates around him. It’s not just about him. We know that with the price we paid and his status, he will get a lot of attention.”

“But the main thing remains about our foundation as a team, which is flowing, united and bonded. We have what we need in the team and he is one part of that and hopefully it can be even bigger,” explained Arteta.
