Casademont Zaragoza defeated Iberostar Tenerife in the Athens bubble and sealed their qualification to the semifinals of the Champions League. Bruno Fitipaldo’s team will not be able to obtain the tournament they won in 2017.

Iberostar Tenerife and Casademont Zaragoza faced each other for the quarterfinals of the Basketball Champions League. The former came from eliminating Oostende from Belgium in the round of 16, while the latter had left Lietkabelis from Lithuania on the way. For their part, those led by Diego Ocampo took to the field with Rodrigo San Miguel, DJ Seeley, Nicolás Brussino, Robin Benzing and Jason Thompson.

The match played at the OAKA Olympic Indoor Hall in the city of Athens, presented an extremely balanced start, in which both teams tried to capture their main offensive attributes in the rectangle. The canaries wanted to hurt in the paint through the Georgian Giorgi Shermadini, while the hands had an inspired Robin Benzing, who scored from medium and long distance. On the epilogue of the first period, Zaragoza took an advantage of six units (20-14), for which the contribution of Icelandic Tryggvi Hlinason was important. However, with the South American double base made up of Marcelinho Huertas and Bruno Fitipaldo fully operational, Iberostar responded with a quick 15-5 run to take the lead on the scoreboard. The first 20 minutes of the game went with those of the island in front in figures of 40 to 39.

At the start of the complement, those from Aragon took control of the game again, having as their main offensive argument the penetrations of the North American Rasheed Sulaimon. A couple of consecutive pumps, one of them by Aaron Doornekamp and another by Dani Díez, returned the parity to the commitment. At the end of the third period, the team that served as local managed to get an income of ten points (61-51), standing out the figures of Nicolas Brussino and Jason Thompson. Those commanded by Txus Vidorreta made a new reaction in the last quarter, mainly due to individual impulses from their main figures, reaching the same score as 76. However, five points in a row from the Argentine Brussino, ended up tipping the balance to favor of the cast hand.
