NBA plans to start the season before Christmas

The NBA plans to start the season before Christmas. As various US media, including the AP agency and the sports portal ESPN, unanimously report, the league proposed to the owners of the teams on Friday to start on December 22nd.

A decision was not made at the meeting, especially since negotiations with the players’ organization NBPA are still ongoing until the end of the month.

According to the plans, the regular season should be shortened a little because of the corona pandemic and include 72 games for each team instead of the usual 82 games. Thus, the end of the season would be possible in June, and thus in good time before the planned start of the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

In addition, there are to be further adjustments to the schedules in order to reduce the number of contacts and trips, among other things. The all-star weekend in Indianapolis will probably have to be canceled. There shouldn’t be a sealed-off bubble like the one the NBA had set up in the play-offs in Florida last season. The Los Angeles Lakers celebrated their 17th championship two weeks ago in Orlando.
