Motorcycle Grand Prix Aragon 2020: Rins in MotoGP kept the adventurous Álex Márquez behind

The modern circuit with the original name Ciudad del Motor de Aragón (internationally MotorLand Aragón), where the 11th race of this year’s World Motorcycle Championship took place, was opened eleven years ago. We know it not only by the dry brownish landscape, but also by the typical walls inside the complex. The 5078 m long track (configuration for motorcycle races) has sixteen turns: nine left and seven right. In Alcañiz, where the complex is located, however, they raced earlier, in the years 1963-2003, although not for world points. Circuito Guadalope led through the city streets and measured 3.9 km.

Yamaha has officially announced that Valentino Rossi will not be replaced by anyone for the next GP Teruel, which takes place on the same track. Cal Crutchlow celebrated third place in yesterday’s qualifying by riding the front wheel. If he doesn’t find a place for next year, he could go stunt riding … “Dovi” complained to Petrucci that he had taken him out for a quick time, but Danilo didn’t pay him back. He was quite taken aback by Andre’s reaction, so he certainly didn’t do it on purpose.

The morning warm-up had a somewhat surprising winner: Takaaki Nakagami. So not that “Taka” can’t ride, there is no room for any racing bikes in MotoGP … The rider of the most prestigious class had 23 laps, almost 117 kilometers. Fabio Quartararo was walking without a crutch. The thermometer read 21 degrees, the track was ten more, and the morning chill was gone.

Maverick Viñales took advantage of Franco Morbidelli’s mistake when he turned off the red lights, when he was long in the first turn and fired into the forehead. Cal Crutchlow failed to start, got stuck behind Miller and left at eleventh. Álex Rins (Suzuki) drove fourth behind both Petronas yams, then bit through Morbidelli and stuck to Quartarara. In the third round, “Pecco” Bagnaia crashed. Even the current leader of the series did not represent an unbeatable opponent for the first blue-silver machine.

The second Álex, Márquez, also made the wind. He dealt with Dovizios, Nakagami and Miller and the fifth Joan Mir with the second suzuki was waiting for him. But he successfully embarked on both turquoise yams. Márquez overtook both Quartarar and Morbidelli and Rins took the lead in lap 9! He rode, while Viñales lost two places later in favor of Mira and Márquez three circuits later. Two suzuki first, third orange honda! Fabio Quartararo backed away from the points … He had a problem with the pressure in the front tire.

Will the younger brother of the injured champion get even higher? In the 19th round, he defeated Joan Mira and stuck to Rins’ back … He made a small mistake in the battle for victory and eventually stayed behind him. Mir defended the podium from the invading Viñales. The result catapulted him to the top of the standings, even though he had not won this year … Álex Rins had to be accompanied to the depot by a scooter, he ran out of petrol … By the way, he was driven by Filip Salač. But the fuel lasted beyond the finish line. He achieved 15th victory in the Grand Prix and 50th degree winners – across all categories.

Joan Mir said after the race: “Leading the championship is amazing, I’m consistent throughout the season, but I’m not happy today, the front soft rubber was running out. Congratulations to Álex for winning.“Álex Márquez shone with happiness, although he also complained about the tire, “I didn’t expect to arrive on the podium, but I drove like crazy. I will try to win next week. “ The already healthy winner said: “It is unbelievable. I was too calm at the start, but when I went to see Viñales, I realized that I could add a little … ” Which really paid off for him.

Sam Lowes reigned supreme in the middle class warm-up training. The race was announced for 21 laps. Enea Bastianini left nothing to chance and took off like a rocket. Jorge Navarro fell in a clump right in the first turn after contact with Ramírez … Such incidents end tragically, because he stayed in the middle of the track, but fortunately nothing happened to him, no one hit him, thank God. Navarre’s colleague Fabio di Giannantonio and Lowes fought for second place. “Diggia” got in front of Brita …

In the third lap, the front slipped Luca Marini, which meant the end. In Le Mans he finished only for points … Navarro went back to the track with a huge loss, but it pays to test the race mode for the next race. Fabio di Giannantonio wanted to win, took the lead, added more gas and … it was painted. By the way, he fell in the morning in the warm up. Jorge Martín got to the running bronze in the middle of the race and was overshadowed by Enea Bastianini.

The two shared it properly, but the first two logically missed them. Marco also drove ahead in front of Sam, but the beginning of the penultimate lap and the end after a rapid fall came. The Italian did not hold back tears … He was comforted by Pablo Nieto and Roberto Locatelli. The Brit was heading for triumph. He celebrated by riding on the back wheel, at the same time strengthening his hopes for the title. He has been wanting to get it for several years, he will not go to MotoGP, he tried his Aprilia in the 2017 season. Bastianini eventually defeated Martin and finished second. Jake Dixon, who was alone, crossed the finish line, and everyone congratulated each other. Nice sports gesture!

In an interview after the race, Jorge Martín shone with satisfaction: “We have done a lot of work in training and qualifications, we are not yet at one hundred percent potential. At first I was worried, I drove with a full tank. In the end, Enea had better grip … “ Enea Bastianini wrote: “I was very aggressive in qualifying, so I failed, we read it from the data. I drove smoother in the race. “ And the winner Sam Lowes? “Bezzecchi had a lot of strength, it was hard to hold on to him. He was always faster in the second turn, which ultimately cost him victory. ” Marc van der Straten’s team will not change the line-up for next year.

Pedro Acosta has signed a contract with the PrüstelGP team, but the Spanish supertalent may be heading elsewhere, probably to Aspar. He is currently fourth in the FIM CEV Moto3 Junior World Championships with one triumph, dominated by Xavier Artigas and most recently Izan Guevara. We will see Artigas next year at the World Championships as well, he has a contract with Leopard.

Raúl Fernández confirmed his form in the morning warm-up. KTM has recently surpassed Honda in training and racing, which was not the case. Gabriel Rodrigo crashed into the back wheel of Aie Ogura … you simply won’t deny the laws of physics. John McPhee suffered a long-round penalty from yesterday’s first qualification, which he tried even in the morning. Alonso López also had to complete it, but for the last race at Le Mans.

Fernández and Albert Arenas started the 19-lap race the best, joined by Tatsuki Suzuki and Romano Fenati. Rodrigo soon finished after an unpleasant highsider, he added more throttle at the exit of the turn … In the third lap McPhee served his penalty, the first four was already ahead of the others, Darryn Binder chased her, he soon caught up and overtook the countryside without any problems.

But in the middle of the race, a three-member group led by a Scottish shooter began to approach, including Jaume Masiá and Jeremy Alcoba. He handled the fighter on the front rungs brilliantly. Sergio García had to go for a long round. So almost eight riders were in front until almost the end, but it was impossible to say that the race would take place in peace. Binder was very aggressive, which McPhee paid for, and he and Suzuki lost. Arenas made a mistake at the end and had to go off the track. Raúl Fernández pushed out Jaume Masia, but the winner in the final round was decided by the slipstream on the opposite straight.

In the end, Masia rejoiced with the turquoise Honda in front of the younger of the Binder brothers, and Fernández finally reached the first stage of his career. Darryn Binder: after the race said: “I had a bad start, but when I saw that the first group was leaving, I tried to catch up. It worked out, then I drove well, until three laps before the finish a lot of chaos started. I’m satisfied.” The winner Masiá broke the fairing with joy after crossing the finish line: “I still can’t believe I won. I did not start until the seventeenth and I soon destroyed the rear tire. ”

Filip Salač was in the group that fought for the last point, he even finished fifteenth for a while, unfortunately he finished sixteenth in the end.
