Maple Leafs Sign Jimmy Vesey

The Maple Leafs provide additional depth in advance and announce the signing of Jimmy Vesey to a one-year contract. The deal pays the winger $ 900,000.

The 27-year-old is best reminded that he chose not to sign with Nashville, who designed it, or Buffalo, who stood up for his rights before embarking on a free agent tour, which most college players have the opportunity to do. While he didn’t make a striker as the teams had hoped, Vesey was a capable top scorer in his four-year NHL career. After spending his first three seasons with Rangers, he was traded for Buffalo in the final off-season, but the fit wasn’t particularly good as he only scored eight goals and 12 assists in 64 games after being in New York each year scored at least 27 points. That certainly played a role for him as he went from an AAV of $ 2.275 million on that last deal to less than half that in this deal.

Vesey will likely have the opportunity to fill the position opened by the deal on Saturday Andreas Johnsson to New Jersey, although youngster Nick Robertson and KHL acquisition Alexander Barabanov are probably also in the mix for this spot.

Toronto still has wingers Ilya Mikheyev (who requested arbitration yesterday) and defense attorney Travis Dermott The re-signing and limitation of the place is limited regardless of which players are completing their roster. Accordingly, the Maple Leafs may have to cut some more caps in the coming days and weeks.
