Liverpool is not perfect, but it’s enough to win

Amsterdam

Juergen Klopp thinks Liverpool’s performance against Ajax is not perfect. However, Klopp is happy because Liverpool came home with a win.

Liverpool travel to Ajax headquarters on matchday 1 Champions League Group D. Compete at the Johan Cruijff Arena, Thursday (22/10/2020) early morning WIB, The Reds won 1-0 thanks to Nicolas Tagliafico’s suicide goal.

In that match, Liverpool appeared without a number of injured pillars. The Liverpool defense appeared without Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker and Joel Matip.

Despite winning, Liverpool did not have an easy match. Ajax was able to serve Liverpool’s attacking game and even nearly scored a goal. Only Fabinho’s acrobatic save prevented Dusan Tadic’s shot from entering the net.

Ajax’s attacks then made Klopp ‘sacrifice’ the trident of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mane. The three of them were pulled out simultaneously and replaced by Diogo Jota, Takumi Minamino, and Xherdan Shaqiri in order to suppress Ajax.

Klopp admitted Liverpool’s appearance was nothing special. However, victory is more important to secure.

“Good enough to win. That’s what you need,” Klopp told BT Sport.

“I think the two teams can play better. It felt wild for a moment. The field was deep and muddy. Three days ago it looked much different and yesterday’s training was different too.”

“But we didn’t maximize our chances, that’s a shame. Ajax had one big chance to hit the post. When you are 1-0 up, these things can happen.”

“But overall I’m happy with this match. It’s not shiny football but we wanted the three points and we got them,” said Klopp.
