Latvian U-21 national team footballers lose to Russia – LV football – Football

The Latvian U-21 national team at the “Skonto” stadium lost 1: 4 (0: 1) to the Russian U-21 national team.

Kristers Lūsiņš scored the only goal in the Latvian national team.

Already at the start of the game on the left side of the field near the Latvian penalty area, the Russian national team got a chance to fulfill the standard situation, but Nils Toms Puriņš remained unbeaten. The visitors controlled the ball more often in the first half and made seven blows, only one of which flew into the goal frame, but it was effective.

28 minutes into the match, the visitors’ central line of defense had to look on as Konstantin Kuchayev dashed through, knocking home 3 – 0 for Russia-U-21. At the end of the first half, the Latvians also went on a quick counterattack, but all efforts were stopped before the penalty area of ​​the Russian national team.

The home team started the game more actively in the second half, but after six minutes the score was 0: 2. From the side of the field, after a standard situation, the ball touched the heads of two Russian national football players in the penalty area, but the last one was done by Pavel Maslov. The guests managed to triple the advantage already three minutes later, when Daņils Lisovijs arranged a comfortable position for the penalty area.

In the continuation of the match, the balance of power leveled off a bit, which gave Latvian footballers the first chance to score a real goal in the 71st minute. The defender of two Latvian national team players could not withstand the pressure of the guests, as a result of which Kaspars Kokins was in a very good position to score, but the goalkeeper hit his show. A moment later, Renārs Varslavāns also broke into the penalty area between the defenders, but the football player’s pass in front of the goalkeeper did not reach.

The Latvian national team managed to score in the 83rd minute, but they were not scored. Four minutes before the end of the regular time, Russian footballers easily overcame the middle part of the field, with a few more passes the ball was already delivered to the penalty area, where Aleksandrs Lomovickis reached 4: 0. In his turn, the debutant Lūsiņš scored the honorary goal in the ranks of the home team already in the fourth minute of the compensation time, who hit his head accurately from a close distance.

The Latvian U-21 team has not yet won the qualifying tournament, playing four times and losing. None of the losses were devastating, experiencing the worst failure directly against Tuesday’s opponent Russia, when they had to lose 0: 2.

In the qualifying games this year, the Latvians twice in their draw – 2: 2 against Serbia and 1: 1 against Estonia – and three days ago the guests acknowledged Bulgaria’s superiority with 0: 1.

Meanwhile, for the Russians, this was the last game in the tournament, and the victory in Riga provided them with a ticket to the final tournament. Before this duel, the Russians have won six games, drawn twice and lost once in nine games. This year they defeated Bulgaria 2-0 on their field, lost to Poland 0-1 on the away field and defeated the Estonians 4-0 on their field four days ago.

On October 4, the Latvian national team started a training camp, in which 24 players from 12 different clubs trained at the disposal of Alexander Basov. Four of the footballers were registered in foreign clubs, but the same number of players were from “Daugavpils” and “Valmiera” teams.

The last qualifying tournament game is scheduled for November 17 against Poland. However, the Latvian national team has already lost even theoretical opportunities to qualify for the final tournament.

Russia ranks first in Group E with 23 points in ten games, Poland has 16 points in eight duels, and Bulgaria has 14 points in eight battles. Serbia has 12 points in ten matches, Estonians have scored five points in nine duels, and Latvia has four points in nine battles.

The head coach of the national team Alexander Basov is assisted in the national team by coaches – Dāvis Caune, Vladimirs Žavoronkovs and Sergejs Golubevs – as well as the goalkeeper coach Andrejs Piedels.
