Joachim Gérard beats world number one Shingo Kunieda and qualifies for the final

He won in three sets (7-5, 2-6, 6-4) against the Japanese Shingo Kunieda, world number one.

In the final, Joachim Gérard will face the winner of the other semi-final between Briton Alfie Hewett (ITF 3) and Argentinian Gustavo Fernandez (ITF 2).

Since his first participation in the French Open in 2014, the Brabançon had never managed to make it past the quarter-finals in singles but has already won the doubles title in 2014 with Frenchman Stéphane Houdet.

Later in the day, he will play the semi-final of the men’s doubles with Frenchman Frédéric Cattaneo. The Franco-Belgian pair will be opposed to the British pair Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid, second seed.
