Hans-Peter Briegel: One of the most unusual careers in German history

Whe wants to visit the “Walz aus der Pfalz”, has to go there: to the Palatinate. He lives with his wife Petra in picturesque Germersheim. They built here 27 years ago, at the end of a cul-de-sac. There is coffee and strawberry cake, there is a Buddha in the back garden – and in a suitcase in the attic are the old jerseys that he collected during his career.

Can we have a look? “Sure,” says Hans-Peter Briegel and spreads out the treasures: an Argentina jersey from the 1986 World Cup final, a France shirt, probably from 1980 (“I never took notes there”), Belgium, Ireland , several Germans. Somebody once offered him 15,000 euros for the Argentina jersey, he just laughed.
