Five riders no longer started in the BinckBank Tour

Of the 112 riders who were knocked down or held up by the fall that took place 4 kilometers from the finish during the first stage of the BinckBank Tour, only 5 did not take the start of the second stage.

The peloton was given an unforeseen rest day yesterday / Wednesday because the time trial in Vlissingen could not take place due to the tightened corona measures at our northern neighbors. On Thursday they started the second stage in Aalter. The East Flemish municipality is organizing the start and finish of the stage after, for the same reason, Philippine was not authorized by the Dutch government to receive the BinckBank Tour today.

Stijn Steels (Deceuninck-Quick Step) gave up with a fracture of the scafoid. The East Fleming will be operated on soon and may make a cross about the further course of his season this year.

Philippe Gilbert (Lotto-Soudal) also threw the towel. The former world champion got out of the race because he was too bothered by the fracture of the kneecap. He suffered this during the opening stage of the Tour de France. Gilbert resumed in the Tour de Luxembourg and then rode the Gooikse Pijl, where he stranded 150 meters from the finish, and the Belgian championship.

Jenthe Biermans (Israel Start-Up-Nation) sustained several deep scrapes and bruises and was also unable to continue. Guillaume Boivin and Mads Schmidt Würtz also suffered in his team. They could take the start.

Stayed with Sport Vlaanderen-Baloise Thimo Willems as well Gilles De Wilde out of the way. The latter fell in the last instance for Edward Planckaert who was knocked off the socks during training. Both Willems and De Wilde have to recover from their scrapes and bruises.
