Finally, Germany also won in the UEFA Nations League

Kiev

Germany won the victory over Ukraine in the UEFA Nations League continued. For Germany, it was their first win at this event.

In the match against Ukraine at the Olympinskiy Stadium, Sunday (11/10/2020), Germany won 2-1. Die Mannschaft’s goals were scored by Mattias Ginter and Leon Goretzka. While the Ukrainian goal was made by Ruslan Malinovskiy from a penalty.

With that victory, Germany has now collected five points from three matches. Joachim Loew’s team took second place in Group A4.

The victory over Ukraine was Germany’s first victory in the UEFA Nations League. In the first edition two years ago, Germany did not win at all.

In the 2018/2019 UEFA Nations League, the 2014 World Cup winner only recorded two draws and twice in four matches. Meanwhile in this edition, before fighting Ukraine, Germany drew against Spain and Switzerland.

Joachim Loew is pleased with Germany’s victory over Ukraine. However, he still highlighted the team’s shortcomings.

“I’m glad we won. Before conceding, we could have been winning 3-0 over 4-0. Penalties should not have been necessary,” Loew was quoted as saying on the official DFB website.

“One positive thing is that we didn’t give them many opportunities from open play. However, we actually lost the ball too easily.”

“They were tired after 2-0. Tonight we played steadily. When playing with three defenders, we need active players, who stick to the opponent and pass the ball forward.”

“We played too many long balls in the first half. I wouldn’t have made many changes in the starting XI against Switzerland if nothing had changed,” said Loew.

Germany will next host Switzerland at RheinEnergieStadion, Cologne, Wednesday (14/10/2020) in the morning WIB.
