Ennser wins the senior national championship in badminton doubles

ENNS. Michael Giel from Enns came second in the singles at the Badminton Seniors State Championships in Vorchdorf. In doubles he and his partner Karl Pröll from ASKÖ Pasching achieved a really big hit.

The 61-year-old only started playing badminton at the age of 20. “My wife Gabriele was a youth national champion, and that’s how I got involved,” he says. From 1980 he played for what was then ASKÖ Enns. After this disbanded in 1986, he switched to the badminton flagship ASKÖ Traun.

Successful as a trainer

Giel completed his training as a coach and joined ASV Enns in 2003 as a junior coach. There he trained future youth national champions as well as his son Michael, who was also U17 national champion and U19 national champion.

New club in planning

In NMS1 in Enns, Michael Giel trains every Wednesday with an adult hobby group and every Friday with children and young people. Next year he wants to found a new badminton club in Enns. For this functionaries are still wanted. Interested parties can contact the number 0676/4464071.
