Donny van de Beek said he was not needed at Man Utd and should not have been signed

Patrice Evra and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink agree that Manchester United didn’t have to sign Donny van de Beek.

The Red Devils chased Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho all summer, but when it became clear they couldn’t afford him they signed Van de Beek instead.

United splashed £ 35million on the Ajax central midfielder and took him to Old Trafford to compete for a spot on the team alongside Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba.

Van de Beek has played four Premier League games so far this season, all from the bench, and has yet to start one game for United.

Speaking of the Sky Sports deal, former United left-back Evra said: “We’re talking about Van de Beek – why did we buy him?

“I have nothing against the child, but why did we buy Van de Beek?

“He’s watching the game from the stands because we don’t need him. That’s the truth, but people won’t say it out loud.”

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink added: “You are spot on. He’s a player – and I know him very well from Ajax – he’s a player who has to play in Fernandes’ or Pogba’s position.

Patrice Evra doesn’t understand why United signed the Dutchman

“So he’s an attacking midfielder whose strength is getting in the box and making the end of things and scoring goals or creating like Fernandes.”

“And if he has to compete with Fernandes, he won’t play, will he?”

Evra replied, “He can’t. But I mean, mistakes have been made so we won’t talk about it. I’d rather talk about the players who are playing.”
