Dhe former Frankfurt professional footballer Luka Jovic is threatened with imprisonment in his home country Serbia for a suspected violation of Corona rules. The public prosecutor’s office brought charges against the Real Madrid attacker and demanded six months in prison, the state news agency Tanjug reported.

Under Serbian law, the court must now decide whether to accept the charges against the 22-year-old.

The attacker, who moved from Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt to Madrid in 2019, flew to Serbia in March after the corona-related interruption of game operations in Spain, where he was supposed to go into quarantine for two weeks. According to media reports, the international should have celebrated in the capital, Belgrade. Jovic, however, had spoken of going to the pharmacy.

“I apologize”

Jovic had justified and apologized for his behavior at the time. “I am very sorry that some people have not done their job professionally and have not given me specific instructions on how to behave during my isolation,” he wrote on social networks. “I apologize to everyone if I have put myself in danger in any way. I hope that together we can overcome all of this, ”he added.

The state broadcaster RTS reported that Jovic had the opportunity to pay a fine of almost 30,000 euros. But he did not take this option. The attacker moved from Eintracht to Real Madrid in the summer of 2019 for 60 million euros.
