The summary

We have been waiting for it for a long time and it is finally during these All Saints holidays that the 2020 French Youth Championship takes place. In the category of Youngsters, it is on one of the two courses of the Domaine du Gouverneur that the takes place the tournament. And obviously Noa Auch-Roy (Mionnay), neighbor of the stage, had it in the eye.

Author of a superb card of -5 (67) colored by seven birdies against two bogeys, the semi-finalist of 2019 launched his tournament perfectly: ” At first I struggled to find a place in this part and then I stayed solid in my head to finish better and put in putts. On the green of the 14th my day changed a bit. I hit a good blow of wood 3 and then a good 6 iron to put back the birdie on a hole which is a little scary. It was a good click to get a good score. »

On the course with Joseph Linel, the two friends boosted each other and it is also a situation that greatly benefited Joseph, especially at the start of the game. On fire from the start of his tournament, the Biarrot started with five birdies then added two more at 7 and 8 before checking his first bogey at 9. His return was more difficult. With four bogeys against two birdies, he still ended his day at -4. On the evening of the first day, Joseph Linel therefore shares 2nd place with Louka Morin (Port Bourgenay) also author of a good day and an identical card of -4 (68).

Just behind with cards of -3 (69), other top names in the category are in the game. Paul Noel (Lacanau) is one of them and his bogey free card places him well overall in 4th position. He is accompanied by the title holder, Faustin Labadie-Destenaves, happy and confident for the rest of the championship: ” I typed well and I putt especially well when usually it is my weak point. Overall I’m really happy with this first -3 card which is a good start to my tournament. I am mostly satisfied with my attitude. I can’t do better than last year and suddenly it increases the pressure even if I approach the tournament in the same way in terms of play. My goal is to keep my title and I will give my all to get there. »

Tomorrow, it’s time for the second round of qualifying with a dreaded cut. As a reminder, you have to place yourself in the top sixteen in the standings to hope to continue the tournament and compete in the matchplay phase.
