Cam Newton’s outfit gets people talking

New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton received criticism for his poor performance delivered Sunday, but now he has to justify his clothing choices as well.

On Monday, the former Carolina Panthers player was the subject of rather scathing comments from Jeff Garcia, a former pivot with his share of success in the NFL and the Canadian Football League.

Following the 33-6 loss of the “Pats” suffered at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers, the 50-year-old said on a daily basis USA Today that he wondered about the dress style of the pivot, who is used in particular to wear hats and some of which are not unlike those of hockey player PK Subban.

The main interested party, for his part, made it clear that he was not going to change course, no offense to his detractor.

“Do you know what’s the most bizarre?” It is that I agree with him. Since he is a former player, he has the right to say that. […] However, that’s another way of looking at it and it’s okay to express it. Now you know that I am perceived differently by so many different people and that is also correct. Yes, he’s right, but I won’t change the way I dress, sorry, ”Newton replied to the WEEI radio station.

“I don’t know Jeff personally, but I would say this: I do certain things because of the culture I come from,” he added. I don’t know where Jeff is from and I don’t want to dwell on it, but let’s just say he’s right. ”

Hiding “in a basket of underwear”

Garcia had said in his own words that Newton did not present statistics that allowed him to flaunt himself to gain attention.

“You come to the game with two touchdown passes and four interceptions to your credit. Then do you throw three more interceptions? You are replaced in the second half, nothing is going on your side. Why are you dressed in such a way that it draws more attention to you? He said. In his place, I would try to ask the equipment managers to hide me in a basket of washing underwear and take it out the back door. I would eventually show up on the pitch to do the best possible. ”

Facing the Niners, Newton saw his head coach Bill Belichick withdraw him in favor of Jarret Stidham.
