Basketball – everyone does what they can – sport

The basketball players of FC Bayern Munich won their last group game in the cup 80:63 (44:28) against the Crailsheim Merlins on Monday evening and thus preserved the chance to take part in the Final Four, which will take place sometime in their Audi Dome. But not on November 1st and 2nd, as originally planned, because of various corona cases, too many games were canceled that have to be made up. So far only the BG Göttingen and Ratiopharm Ulm have qualified for the final round. Cup defender Alba Berlin has not yet played because the team has been in quarantine since last weekend after initially six and now seven corona cases.

Against the MBC and Crailsheim, Trinchieri spares five of his regular employees

After all, the quarantine imposed by the local health department for Berlin’s group opponent Telekom Bonn was lifted on Monday. One player tested weakly positive for the corona virus on Saturday, and two other tests were negative. The cup game against Braunschweig, which was canceled on Sunday, was rescheduled for next Sunday; When the meeting with Alba takes place, however, is completely open.

The Medi Bayreuth team will also have to make up two games as soon as they are released from quarantine, against Crailsheim and against Central German BC. The outcome of these games then depends on whether the FC Bayern basketball players have to watch the final in their own hall or are allowed to participate.

The Munich team surprisingly lost their opening game against Bayreuth last weekend, 89:95. Because the direct comparison counts with the same number of wins, they had given their fate out of hand and are dependent on the help of the competition. And they have to wait for them now.

Against Bayreuth, the FC Bayern basketball players were obviously tired and exhausted after two hard-fought away wins in the Euroleague. After all, coach Andrea Trinchieri quickly learned from the defeat. “That will be my main task this season,” he added on Monday Magenta Sports explains: “Managing the load and making sure that we have fresh legs in every game.” Already at the 97:60 against the Central German BC on Sunday, Trinchieri had spared Nihad Djedovic, Wade Baldwin, Vladimir Lucic, JaJuan Johnson and Leon Radosevic, who were strained in international competition, and exhausted the depth of his squad; especially the youngest in the squad he granted playing time. Matej Rudan, 19, used it with nine points and eight rebounds, Sasha Grant, 18, with eight points and five rebounds. “They were useful, they gained experience, it was a good thing for them”, praised Trinchieri, but warned: “You have to keep plowing.” They did that against Crailsheim, albeit no longer with the previous day’s harvest.

Zipser is happy about the team effort: “We played together completely.”

Trinchieri not only gave his teenagers the opportunity to gain match practice, but also professionals such as TJ Bray or Diego Flaccadori, who have not had much use this season, were allowed to show what they can do. Bray was the top scorer against Weißenfels with 19 points, Flaccadori stood out against Crailsheim with 15 points and four ball wins. Paul Zipser also gained confidence with 16 points on Monday. Nick Weiler-Babb delivered an all-round performance with nine points, nine rebounds and four assists. Everyone did what they could. “We played together completely,” said Zipser happily about the team effort. The spared professionals will return on Thursday, when a stronger opponent is waiting for the FC Bayern basketball players in the Euroleague: Real Madrid.
