Basketball Bundesliga: Hardly any places left at the Herner TC

Herne.
The home game of the Herner TC against Halle is almost sold out. The fans remain loyal to the club, even if home games will soon look very different.

“Really, so little?” Wolfgang Siebert was genuinely surprised and delighted when he saw the intermediate state of advance sales for the first Bundesliga home game of the Herner TC in the DBBL-Season 2020/21 learned.

A few hours after sales started, most of the tickets were already sold out. In the evening there were not even ten places left in the hall for the game against the Halle Lions on Saturday.

Herner TC has to increase ticket prices – fans remain loyal

“It is good that the fans are loyal to us, because we not only had to raise advance booking fees, but also increase ticket prices,” said HTC President Siebert.

A grandstand ticket for a home game in Herne in the new season costs 15 euros and a reduced price of 10 euros. The home game Saturday evening will look very different for Herner basketball fans this season than in previous years.

No more spontaneous visits in the hall, hardly a casual chat in the aisle, and certainly no clapping with the team, regardless of whether they win or lose. “The players are allowed to clap, wave and say thank you, but of course they have to stay in their zone,” explains Siebert.

Many new rules apply to active people and fans

In order to be able to maintain Bundesliga game operations in times of pandemic, a lot was introduced and a lot invested. All players have a fever measured and symptoms are queried.

There are separate entrances, as many cabins as possible are used, there are people restrictions for the shower rooms – wherever possible, keep a distance. This also applies in the hall and on the stalls for everyone who is not wearing a jersey.

Gaps and masks are standard – that was already evident in the cup

The coaches and officials had to find out about this at the cup game on Saturday – for example, Wolfgang Siebert ran onto the field during a break and adjusted the replacement chair for the guests from Göttingen after it had been pushed closer and closer to the timekeeping table. The association also proceeds in the stands with the same attention and care.

Around 100 guests (with mask) are allowed to enter the hall, grandstand and seats on the edge of the field. “Less than we should,” says Siebert, “but we’d rather be careful. It is the first home game with fans under these conditions. ”

Only those who belong together (and who have bought tickets together) are allowed to sit together in the stands. There are also more volunteers than usual.

Real experiences with the hygiene concept are only available on Saturday

Around 30 people (helpers, press, officials) were already sitting in the stands during the cup game, and the hygiene concept that was finally agreed with the city and DBBL on Monday was also tested at the WNBL game. But neither was a Bundesliga-ready endurance test.

How what works will only be shown on Saturday. Wherever traffic jams could arise, the HTC wants to take precautions, for example through a one-way street system.

There is no box office this season.

Or by doing without a box office. Because even in the unlikely event that there are tickets left on Saturday, they will not be sold – no one should buy tickets at the entrance, just give their contact details.

For those who prefer to watch from home, all the Herner TC games will continue to be streamed live: This season’s partner is “Sporttotal”, the broadcasts can be accessed online free of charge.
