Arteta Wants to ‘Play’ with Partey

Jakarta

Arsenal’s success in recruiting Thomas Partey was greeted enthusiastically by Mikel Arteta. Partey made the Arsenal manager more able to play with the team formation.

Arsenal redeemed Partey from Atletico Madrid for 50 million euros on the last day of the summer transfer window on October 5. He reportedly has a four-year contract with an option for a year extension.

The arrival of the 27-year-old midfielder adds options in midfield The Gunners. With Mesut Oezil being pushed aside, Arsenal practically only had Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny and Dani Ceballos as reliable central midfielders.

More so, Partey’s qualities called Arteta allowed him to experiment. Partey is not only flexible enough in playing position – he can play as a right-back, center-right midfielder or central midfielder – but can play a number of roles.

Partey can play as a midfielder box-to-box because of his very high cruising range, or as a midfielder deep-lying for being able to pass and play the tempo well. Partey is also considered to have the ability to carry the ball well, which allows him to play a more advanced role.

Squawka Last June revealed data that Partey recorded an average of 2.2 successful dribbles per 90 minutes. In the top five European leagues at that time, only Thiago Alcantara had a better success rate than Partey, among players who had registered more than 50 dribbles.

So many have labeled Partey as one of the most complete midfielders today. Arteta admitted that Partey’s presence had stimulated various ideas to tinker with Arsenal’s midfield.

“We believe he has the right qualities, with his character and attitude, also with the quality of technique and the position options he can give the team,” he said. Metro.

“I think he allows us to play different formations and he can fit into those formations in various positions, which is great for a squad where in midfield, I think we are a little short on players.”

“I have some ideas that I would like to start with with the team and this signing will give us a little more adaptability and a better balance in defense and attack transitions and the way we have to structure a certain way to attack better in some moments of the match “said Pep Guardiola’s former right-hand man at Manchester City.
